Collection: Tartan Lobster Collection
We’re lucky enough to live along the coast, and with our back deck facing the ocean we’ve got a front row seat to watch the Lobster Fishermen heading out to sea. Six days a week, from May 15th to July 15th without fail, they make their way to open waters in search of those most incredible crustaceans. Indeed, lobster fishing is a big part of our economic picture present and past. From the men and women who bring in the traps to the family gatherings and community suppers where lobster’s cooked up and enjoyed – its lore has been woven into our culture. And that got us to thinking about another symbol of Cape Breton’s history – our tartan. Designed by Glace Bay’s own Elizabeth Grant in 1957 as inspired by a poem written Lillian Crewe Walsh entitled “The Lady Of The Loom” all the way back in 1907 each colour has deep meaning ~ “Black for the wealth of our coal mines, Grey for our Cape Breton steel, Green for our lofty mountains, Our valleys and our fields; Gold for our golden sunsets Shining bright on the lakes of Bras D’Or To show us God’s hand has lingered To bless Cape Breton’s shores." And so became our Tartan Lobster Collection.
